Philippines or Latin America? How to choose for each agency role

We place specialists from the Philippines and from Colombia, El Salvador and Nicaragua, so we don't need you to pick one. Here is how they actually differ for a marketing agency: hours, English, year-end pay, and which roles fit where.

The short answer

It comes down to live hours

Choose the Philippines when the work can happen while you sleep, or when your clients are in Australia. Production roles like SEO, content, design, video and reporting get done overnight and are ready in the morning.

Choose Latin America when the role needs to be live during U.S. business hours, like account management, project management, and anyone on client calls. Colombia, El Salvador and Nicaragua all sit within two hours of U.S. Eastern time.

Either region works for most roles. The deciding question is how many hours a day the person has to be online at the same time as you or your clients.

Hours ahead or behind your team

Ranges cover daylight saving time. Manila, Bogotá, San Salvador and Managua don't change their clocks, so the gap moves when New York, Los Angeles or Sydney do. A 9 a.m. start in New York is 9 or 10 p.m. in Manila.

By role

Which region fits each role

Works well from Latin America

The role is on calls, in Slack threads, or answering clients while they are at their desks. Same-hours overlap matters more than cost.

Either region, depending on your setup

These roles can run on a short daily overlap. Pick on schedule, budget, and whether your clients expect same-day replies.

Cost

What the difference in cost actually is

For the same role, a hire in the Philippines is usually paid less than a hire in Latin America. The extra you pay in Latin America buys same-hours overlap with U.S. clients. If the role doesn't need that overlap, it is money that doesn't do any work.

With TalentFuze, your hire is paid at cost and our fee is one flat monthly amount, whichever region you choose. The only thing that changes between regions is your hire's pay, and you see all of it. See how pricing works.

Year-end pay

13th-month pay: employee or contractor

Every country we hire from requires a year-end payment for employees. Whether you owe it depends on how your hire is engaged.

If your hire is an employee

Year-end pay is a legal requirement in all four countries. It is owed whether or not you call it a bonus, and a late or skipped payment can bring penalties. Budget for it from the first month.

If your hire is an independent contractor

These laws cover employees, so a contractor generally isn't owed year-end pay unless the contract says so. Many agencies pay a year-end bonus anyway, as a reason for good people to stay.

Avoid these

Four mistakes agencies make choosing a region

Hiring for the night shift without asking

Many Filipino specialists work U.S. hours, but not all of them want to. Agree on the schedule before the offer, not after. We match it during vetting.

Treating English as one score

Country rankings are averages. A strong communicator can come from anywhere, and a weak one can too. Test written and spoken English for the role.

Forgetting year-end pay

Employees are owed it by law, and many agencies pay contractors a year-end bonus too. Budget for December from the start so it isn't a surprise.

Paying for overlap you don't need

If the work is async, a Latin American hire costs more for hours that don't help. Decide the live hours the role really needs first.

FAQ

Questions we hear all the time

Is the Philippines or Latin America better for a marketing agency hire?

Neither is better overall. The Philippines usually costs less and suits async production work, plus anything for Australian clients. Colombia, El Salvador and Nicaragua suit roles that need to be live during U.S. business hours. Decide how many hours of overlap the role needs, then pick the region.

Will a Filipino hire work U.S. business hours?

Many will. Working U.S. hours on a night shift is common in the Philippines, which has about 1.9 million people in outsourcing. Not every candidate wants it, so agree on the schedule before the offer. We match schedule and timezone during vetting.

Where is English stronger, the Philippines or Latin America?

On the 2025 EF English Proficiency Index, the Philippines ranks 28th with high proficiency. El Salvador (47th) and Nicaragua (60th) rank moderate, and Colombia (76th) ranks low. Individual candidates vary a lot, so we vet communication for every candidate.

Which region is better for Australian agencies?

The Philippines. Manila is 2 to 3 hours behind Sydney, so your hire works a normal day shift during your business hours. Colombia, El Salvador and Nicaragua are 15 or more hours away.

Do I have to pay a 13th month to a contractor?

Generally not. Year-end pay laws in the Philippines, Colombia, El Salvador and Nicaragua cover employees, so an independent contractor isn't owed it unless the contract says so. Many agencies pay a year-end bonus to contractors anyway to keep good people. This is general information, not legal advice.

How much is year-end pay for an employee?

In the Philippines, rank-and-file employees get one-twelfth of the year's basic pay by December 24. In Colombia, 30 days' pay a year, split between June and December. In El Salvador, 15 to 21 days' pay depending on years of service, by December 20. In Nicaragua, one month's pay in the first 10 days of December.

Does TalentFuze charge more for one region?

No. Your hire is paid at cost, and our fee is one flat monthly amount whichever region you hire from. The difference in cost between regions is the hire's pay, which you see in full.
